The Community Resource Unit consists of four officers designated as either School Support Officers or Community Support Officers. They focus on proactively promoting relationships within the community they police.
Officers engage in community policing through proactive calls for service; foot, Segway and bike patrols; and liaising with the public, students and fellow police officers. A substantial focus involves partnering with community organizations to support individuals dealing with homelessness, addiction and mental health challenges.
Community Support Officers also deliver educational presentations on a range of subjects and provide targeted assistance to different community groups, consistently building bridges with community partners.
