How public complaints work
Public complaints about police conduct, the policies of a police service, or the services it provides are handled through Ontario's independent, civilian-led complaints process. The Belleville Police Service page directs complainants to the independent provincial oversight agency, which is staffed entirely by civilians and operates at arm's length from police.
Note on the agency's name: Ontario's independent police complaints agency was formerly the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD). As of April 1, 2024, this function transitioned to the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA) under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019. Confirm the current intake details on the official source pages below before filing.
File with the independent agency
Complaints are made to Ontario's independent complaints agency. Use the official Belleville Police Service complaint pages and the agency's website for current forms and intake instructions rather than relying on a third party.
