Destruction of fingerprints and photographs

If you were fingerprinted and photographed after a charge that did not lead to a conviction, you may apply to have those records destroyed. Applications are processed through the Records Management Unit.

Eligibility for destruction

Destruction is generally considered only for non-convictions, and adult applications are typically considered where the person was 18 or older on the day of arrest. Youth records are governed by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which sets its own retention and disclosure rules. Confirm your eligibility and the current application form with the Records Unit at 613-966-0882 before applying.

Confirm current fees

Fees are set by the Service and reviewed periodically. Verify the amount for your request on the current BPS service-fees page before you pay.
