What domestic violence is
The Belleville Police Service describes domestic and family violence as any use of physical or sexual force, actual or threatened — including emotional or psychological abuse, harassing behaviour, or threats to harm children, other family members, or pets — by an intimate partner, spouse, or former spouse.
Criminal harassment (stalking) is also a crime: when a person repeatedly follows or watches (stalks), communicates with, or threatens another, and the victim reasonably fears for their safety.
