Police Constable

The Belleville Police Service hires Police Constables (New Recruits) four times each year, aligned with the intakes of the Ontario Police College (OPC). Hiring follows the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) constable selection process.

Minimum requirements

To apply as a New Recruit, you must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada and legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Hold a high school diploma or equivalent, or post-secondary credentials.
• Possess a valid Class G driver's license and a suitable driving record.
• Possess valid standard or emergency First Aid and CPR Level C certificates.
• Possess a complete and valid Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Certificate.
• Be physically and mentally fit, meeting OACP and BPS standards.
• Have no criminal record for which a pardon has not been received.
• Demonstrate trustworthiness and integrity.

Essential competencies

Beyond the minimum standards, applicants must demonstrate the competencies set out in the OACP Police Constable Essential Competencies framework.

• OACP application form
• Cover letter and resume
• OACP consent / release form
• Copy of your OACP Certificate
• Completed fitness log
• Vision and hearing assessments
• Educational diplomas / degrees
• First Aid and CPR certificates
• Optional: reference letters and certificates of achievement

Training

Successful candidates complete three weeks of in-person training with the BPS in-house Training Unit, three weeks of online OPC courses delivered at the Belleville Police Service, followed by ten weeks of in-person training at the Ontario Police College.
