Missing Persons Act

Ontario's Missing Persons Act, 2018 gives police additional tools to locate missing people, and requires police services to report publicly on how those powers are used.

About the Missing Persons Act

The Missing Persons Act, 2018 is Ontario legislation that gives police services additional tools to help locate a missing person in situations where no criminal offence is suspected. Under the Act, police can apply for orders to obtain certain records and information that may help find someone who is missing.

The Act also includes accountability requirements. Police services in Ontario publish an annual report describing how these powers were used, which the Belleville Police Service makes available to the public.

Annual report and full details

The Belleville Police Service publishes its Missing Persons Act annual report on its website. For the report and the precise statutory details, see the current page on bellevilleps.ca.
