False Alarm Reduction

The False Alarm Reduction Program reduces a significant misuse of police resources so officers stay available for genuine calls. Repeated false alarms from a premises are subject to a fee.

What counts as a false alarm

A false alarm is the activation of an alarm — by testing, malfunction, or accident — that results in a police response where there has been no unauthorized entry to the premises.

Excessive false alarm fees are payable by the owner after the second and all subsequent false alarms from a premises during any calendar year.
False alarmExcessive false alarm fee
Second$50
Third$100
Fourth and over$200

When fees do not apply

A fee is not charged when the alarm was caused by an illegal entry or an attempted illegal entry to the premises, or by severe weather or a major electrical disruption.

Reducing false alarms is a shared effort between the alarm industry, alarm owners, and police. Maintaining your system, training everyone who uses it, and keeping your monitoring company's contact details current all help avoid unnecessary responses.
