Vulnerable Person Registry

A voluntary registry that gives officers key information about a vulnerable person ahead of time, so any interaction is safer and better informed.

What it is

The Vulnerable Person Registry lets parents and caregivers share information about a person whose condition may lead to behaviour that could put them at risk during contact with police. Having this on file helps officers communicate and respond appropriately.

Who it is for

The registry serves individuals with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Huntington's Disease, an Acquired Brain Injury, or a mental health condition that may cause specific behaviours.

Who can register

The parents or caregivers of a vulnerable person living within the jurisdiction of the Belleville Police Service. The caregiver does not need to live within the jurisdiction themselves.

How to register

  1. Complete the registry form

    Fill out the form thoroughly. It asks for physical descriptors (scars, marks, tattoos), the best methods of communication, the best method of approach (including approach and de-escalation techniques), medical concerns, favourite locations, and emergency contacts. A head-shot photo can be included, though it is optional.

  2. Submit and receive confirmation

    After you submit, you will receive confirmation that the registry has been completed and an occurrence number will be provided.

  3. Re-register yearly

    It is recommended that each individual re-register every year during the month of their birthday so the information stays current.
